Jeff Terrill's
Kung Fu San Soo
503-930-3978

Jeff, at an early age, had an interest in martial arts and self defense, both out of mere interest as well as necessity, due to being jumped by two 15 year olds at the age of 9 or 10. Being thrown into a headlock and punched in the face, he decided he never wanted to be trapped in that situation again without an answer to the problem.

His first experiences with martial arts, other than boxing in the backyard with his brothers, was wrestling in high school.  Later, when his sons were in high school,  (early 2000's) he created a USA sanctioned wrestling club with focus on Greco Roman and Freestyle wrestling and competed in Greco wrestling tournaments in his mid 40's                 (USA wrestling is the national governing body for Olympic wrestling)

After high school, Jeff briefly trained in Shito Ryu Karate, and then Aikido, before encountering Jimmy H. Woo's* Kung Fu San Soo at Al Rubin's** Kung Fu San Soo school in Riverside, Ca. in 1985 and immediately became extremely interested in the art and has been studying the art since.  Having students in various places off and on through the years, he has created lifelong friendships along the way.

Jeff's emphasis is on the mastering of fundamentals on which to build the art, and the development of human character within students along with instilling confidence and philosophical concepts that are timeless, to help in everyday life. Among these would be, that any man is potentially our equal and we must, as Jimmy H Woo has said "...to do your best, the best you know how."

Along with San Soo, Jeff has studied with DK in Redlands, CA.  For brief times in Korean kickboxing, which is very close to Muay Thai style kickboxing.

Jeff has also studied, and has a  continued interest in Sayoc Kali.

He looks forward to bringing Kung Fu San Soo to the Tigard area along with Sayoc Kali, grappling and MMA, or mixed martial arts, and reality based training with a view through the lens of San Soo as studied with Lari Beeb***

Jeff has been known to have visited and trained at various Masters schools in the art of Kung Fu San Soo.

Jeff is proud to be in the lineage that ran through the art of Jimmy H. Woo's family via Frank Woolsey**** and Al Rubin.

*Jimmy H. Woo (born, Chin Siu Dek) is responsible for bringing his wonderful family art of Kung Fu San Soo to the United States.

**Al Rubin was the owner of Al Rubins Kung Fu San Soo in Riverside Ca. area, before his untimely death in 1987.       Al began his training with Frank Woolsey and then later transitioned to Jimmy's school after Frank Woolsey schools were no longer operating.

***Lari Beebe shared his grappling and jiu jistsu from his training with Gene Lebell and Gokor Chivichyan and others.

****Frank Woolsey was a very early student of Jimmy H. Woo and he had 5 schools at one time. He is somewhat controversial in certain circles, yet, respected by those who have trained in the same lineage.
